Steve joined the WCYB News team in 1976 as Sports Anchor. He was promoted to 11:00 News Anchor in 1979 and was named News Director in 1985. He has managed the news operation since that time and continued to anchor News 5 at 6:00 when Merrill Moore was away. He replaced Merrill as 6:00 News Anchor (when Merrill retired after 38 years) in August 2000. A Rogersville native, Steve is a graduate of ETSU. He and Dr. Teresa Keller, from Emory & Henry College, have written a textbook on Television News Writing and Reporting, which is being used by 40 colleges and universities in 20 states, and has been released in a third edition. Steve is a popular speaker and emcee in the community, often working with the Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee High School Band, and other schools and civic groups.
